affordable crash reporting tool

Short answer: the cheapest crash reporting tool is Firebase Crashlytics. It's free, with no event cap shown on its pricing page, and covers Android, iOS, Flutter and Unity. If you need more than crashes, such as web errors, failed API calls, tracing or alerts beyond Firebase's, the cheapest paid entry points as of October 2026 are Rollbar Essentials (from $9/month), Bugsnag Select (from $20/month billed yearly), Sentry Team and Honeybadger Team (both $26/month on annual billing), and Codeskop Starter ($49/month, which adds ANRs and network monitoring). The cheapest choice depends on what limits you: events, users or platforms.

Every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page, checked on 8 October 2026. Prices change, so check the linked page before you buy. For deeper head-to-heads, see Firebase Crashlytics vs Codeskop and Sentry vs Codeskop. If ANRs are your problem, start with our Android ANR guide. Codeskop's own plans are on the pricing page.

A few notes on reading this table:

  • "Event", "error" and "occurrence" mean slightly different things. Sentry and Honeybadger count errors; Rollbar counts occurrences; Bugsnag and Codeskop count events (Codeskop also counts each failed or timed network call and each ANR as an event). Embrace prices by session, which is a different model entirely.
  • Overages differ. Codeskop publishes overage per plan ($0.50 per 1,000 events on Starter) and pauses capture at 3× quota as a safety net. Honeybadger keeps processing to 125% of your limit and offers optional overage at $0.0003 per error on Team. Rollbar caps by default, with optional on-demand events at your plan's rate. Sentry's page offers pay-as-you-go top-ups.
  • Users matter for teams. Sentry Developer and Honeybadger Developer are one user. Codeskop Free allows 2 members and Starter allows 5.

What each tool is good at, briefly

Firebase Crashlytics. Free, mature crash and ANR reporting (Android 11+) with deobfuscation and BigQuery export. It doesn't cover web apps or failed API calls (Firebase Performance Monitoring records request metrics separately, also at no cost).

Sentry. The broadest platform here: errors, tracing, session replay, profiling, cron and uptime monitoring, plus a self-hosted option. Good value for small teams on Team; you'll manage several quotas as you grow.

Bugsnag. Strong stability-focused mobile SDKs with an event-based plan and unlimited users from the first paid tier.

Rollbar. The lowest paid entry price in this list, with unlimited users even on Free. Historically strongest on web and backend; it has an Android SDK.

Honeybadger. Simple, well-priced error monitoring for web and backend teams. With no Android or Flutter SDK listed, it isn't a fit for most mobile apps.

Embrace. Mobile-first observability priced by session, with a generous free session allowance but short free retention (3 days), and an $80/month minimum on Pro.

Luciq (Instabug). A mobile-focused platform with bug reporting and app-quality tools, sold through sales conversations rather than public prices.

Codeskop. Mobile-first crash, ANR and network monitoring. Its distinguishing features are failed API calls grouped by endpoint, an offline-first SDK (events are stored on the device and sent when the connection returns), ANR detection on Android 7–10 as well as 11+, WhatsApp and Slack alerts on Starter, and public USD pricing payable by M-Pesa GlobalPay in Kenya. It doesn't offer tracing or session replay, and iOS/KMP and server SDKs are beta.

Recommendations by situation

Solo indie developer

Use Firebase Crashlytics. It's free and covers Android, iOS and Flutter crashes well. If you also run a web app or backend, add Sentry Developer (free, one user, 5,000 errors/month) for those. Codeskop's Free plan (10,000 events/month) is an option if you want mobile and web errors in one dashboard. It doesn't include ANRs, network capture or alerts, though, so for a solo developer Crashlytics is the better free start.

A 2–5 person startup

Keep Crashlytics as your free crash baseline, then pay for what's missing.

  • If you need web and backend errors with unlimited users on a tight budget, Rollbar Essentials (from $9/month), Bugsnag Select ($20–23/month) or Sentry Team ($26–29/month) are the cheapest paid steps.
  • If your app's failures are mostly at the network, such as payments, bookings or delivery tracking, and you want ANRs and alerts too, Codeskop Starter ($49/month, 5 members, 100,000 events) covers crashes, ANRs and failed API calls under one quota. It costs more than the cheapest error trackers, so pick it for the network and ANR coverage, not on price alone.
  • If you want session-based mobile observability, Embrace Free covers up to 1 million sessions a year for up to 5 users, but keeps event data for only 3 days.

A team in Kenya paying with mobile money

Most tools here bill by international card. That's a real obstacle for teams without a USD-capable bank card. Codeskop's paid plans can be paid with M-Pesa GlobalPay, which gives every M-Pesa user a virtual Visa card linked to their wallet, so you can pay Starter ($49/month) or annual Starter ($500/year) straight from M-Pesa. Because GlobalPay issues a Visa card, it may also work at other vendors' card checkouts, but we've only confirmed it for ours.

For the app itself, the usual Kenyan conditions point the same way: budget Tecno, Infinix and itel phones (ANRs, including on Android versions before 11), patchy 3G outside the main towns and capped data bundles (offline queueing), and payment integrations like the M-Pesa Daraja API that can time out (failed API call monitoring). Pair free Crashlytics with Codeskop Starter if those are your main problems.

Note

Missing the bug traceability journey because of all the different tools we plug in to our platforms and use was a huge factor in re-thinking how engineering teams can observe their production environments.

When "cheap" stops being cheap

  • Short retention can force an upgrade. Codeskop Free keeps 7 days, Embrace Free keeps 3 days of events, and Honeybadger Developer keeps 15.
  • One-user free plans stop working the day you hire.
  • Session-based pricing grows with active users, not with errors. Event-based pricing grows with how buggy (or chatty) your app is. Sample high-volume signals, such as request timings, to stay inside quotas. Codeskop never samples crashes or ANRs.
